Gather Our Children Home - Babies & Children's Safe Shelter
The Gathering Thunder Foundation, along with Tribal representatives and elders, recognize the great need and urgency for protecting children on the reservation. Outside of volunteer families who are often overcrowded, there has never been a safe place for newborns and young children to go when they have been removed from a home where violence, addiction or neglect prevails. Most times, because of the desperate conditions, infants and toddlers are removed with little to no clothing on.
It is the prayer of tribal elders that a safe harbor be created for these brand new and very young souls. Unable to understand why the suicide and rate of helplessness with young people is so high or how to effectively prevent it, they aim to curtail it at the beginning of Lakota life; with the babies and the care they receive at this tender age.
Gathering Thunder all volunteer board, advisory circle & membership is committed to providing financial support to purchase the home and monies to get it operational. A down payment has been placed on the home and executive director, Barbara Dull Knife, is in the process of developing a plan for operations along with selecting board members.
Please join us in this historic opportunity to help our youngest generation. If you would prefer to donate in ways other than the link below, feel free to contact us at: info@gatheringthunderfoundation.org
