This photo was taken on June 12, 2010, as Gathering Thunder Foundation board of directors were driving to Tribal Headquarters in Pine Ridge, for a meeting with Oglala Sioux Tribal President, Theresa Two Bulls;  Porcupine District Representative, Tony Wounded Head, Sr; and Oglala District Representative, Barbara Dull Knife.

The rainbow ends directly over the spot that the Tribal Council wishes us to build the Rita Little Boy Community Life Center in Porcupine.

President Two Bulls, Tribal Council member Wounded Head, Sr. and Tribal Council member Dull Knife, expressed their deepest thanks for the work of Gathering Thunder Foundation and all her members and supporters!

During our meeting, Tony Wounded Headed, Sr. talked about the desperate need for the Community Life Center, for both the youth and the elders of the Porcupine District.  President Two Bulls reiterated that need, by explaining that the Porcupine District has no place for families and the community to gather for funerals, weddings, meetings, dinners and traditional purposes.

Councilman Wounded Headed Sr., spoke about the rising numbers of teen suicides on the Pine Ridge Reservation.  The following article speaks to that concern:

Teen Suicide Emergency on Pine Ridge Reservation

May GTF come to represent a loud and supportive voice of
unconditional love and hope, that the Native American children (of all ages) so desperately need.

Waste',

Our second annual Spring Gathering and Fundraiser was a huge success.  We enjoyed an evening which included traditional drumming hosted by Fred Corbett, GTF Project Director.   President Denise Iwaniw, and Vice President Linda Grzeszak presented updates and review of our 2009 annual give away to the Porcupine area of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and Life Community Life Center plans by r2 Design Group Jonathan Blair.

A traditional dinner of buffalo stew and frybread as well as silent auction & sale was was held during the evening, with hand-made items and a 90th Anniversary Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer offered for bid.   Private label GTF candles developed and donated by Dr. David Hillis, www.DolphinHealingHands.com were introduced and available for sale.  The Pennies for Pine Ridge fundraiser basket raised $300.

Thank you to all members, donors and guests for joining the board of directors, advisory and drum circle members in making this an evening to remember.
